Homeless to Small Business Owner

Guest post by Gerard Mcdaniel

Who would have thought that I would go from homeless when I was only 19 to owning my own business (that’s thriving, thank you very much!) at age 30? I love my new life and I’m so proud of myself for pulling myself up by the bootstraps and making it to the next stage of life unscathed. I lived in my car for a while when my loans got over my head and after years of struggle and a few lucky breaks I opened my own coffee shop last year. I love being here every day and I’m always really nice to people who come here to job hunt online! I have to do everything myself, from looking into bank card processing to calling the pest control guy, but that’s part of the cool nature of owning your own business and being your own boss, I guess. I’m not exactly rolling in dough but I’ve got enough to keep a roof over my head and I love my job!
